AIRTRO
Autonomous Baggage Trolley
2nd Place Toyota Logistics Design Competition 2020
AIRTRO is a self-automated baggage trolley system for airports that solves the issue of delayed baggage caused by transfer mishandling. The AIRTRO system approach reflects Toyota’s heritage and brand by focusing on innovation, efficiency, and the customers’ needs. This sustainable and efficient baggage system recognizes the painful working conditions that ground baggage handlers endure.
This system puts the employees' and customers' needs first, by improving the way checked baggage is handled and delivered. When the plane reaches its destination, AIRTRO uses its two-layer conveyor belt lift system to unload arrivals then transfers.
Featuring an OLED external screen, employees and travelers are conveniently able to see flight numbers, gate numbers, and the estimated time of arrival for baggage when looking outside. AIRTRO is also designed as a modular platform that can be converted into a belt loader by removing its solar-powered roof.
