Hi, my name is Kevin Wong. I grew up in the San Fernando Valley as an active kid playing basketball, skateboarding, and biking with friends. When I wasn't playing sports, I would be helping my dad with fixing things around the house, working on our cars, or assisting with his air conditioning side jobs. As I grew up learning from my dad, I discovered my passion and ability to problem solve through design.
Fast-forwarding to graduating high school, I had no clue what I wanted to pursue. I went to my local community college trying out many different career paths from commercial photography, graphic design, and marketing. At that time, my future goals were unclear until I stumbled upon industrial design. Once I discovered industrial design I knew it was the perfect fit. I said to myself, "How come I never knew this was a career option?" In high school, my class had to take an online career assessment and this wasn't an option. After researching colleges near me with ID, I decided to attend Pasadena City College for 2 years to get my product design certificate and learn all the hard skills such as sketching, rapid viz, rendering, CAD, etc. I decided to transfer to CSULB since they focus on designing products that can be manufactured. After getting into the CSULB ID program, I focused my time and energy on becoming a better designer. In my junior year, I won 1st place for the LDA LLC Consumer Electronics sponsored school project and later became an ID intern at LDA. In my senior year, I became a top 3 finalist in the Toyota Logistic Design Competition 2020 and recently placed second in the competition. |
